Lake Youngs Nuts Run
IT’S NOT A RUMOR: THE TRAIL NUTS ARE TAKING OVER THE PIGTAILS LAKE YOUNGS RUN!
Van Phan decided that 2011 would be her last year as race director of the Lake Youngs Run. We are thrilled that she chose The Trail Nuts as her successors and we will continue her tradition of keeping this a low-key, grassroots race (minimal aid, minimal cost, minimal whining).
DATE: Saturday, January 28, 2012
SIGN UP: Online registration opens on October 1st at DATABAR EVENTS. Online registration only. There will be no registration on race day.
COST: $20 for all race distances so the more you run, the better the value!
Proceeds from the run will be donated to the Stroke Telemedicine Fund at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute (NSI)
RACE DISTANCES:
9.6 miles=one loop
19.2 miles=2 loops
50K=3 loops and a 2.2-mile out and back (1.1 out and 1.1 back)
AWARDS: There will be awards for first male and female in the 50k Open, Masters and Supermasters
COURSE: This is a 9.6-mile loop around the Lake Youngs Watershed. The terrain is a rolling mixture of packed gravel, trail, and a very short section of road. The trail hugs the fence that goes around the watershed, so getting lost is not really an option. If you have crossed a road, you have gone off course.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Chicken noodle or butternut squash soup (in boxes or cans that don’t require can openers) to contribute to the aid station & post-race soup pot
- Additional food item for the aid station / post-race munchies
- Up to three, hearty, winter food items for the Maple Valley Food Bank
CHECK-IN: 6:45-7:25AM. Everyone must check in at the start.
RACE START: 7:30am for all race distances. Early start only for 50K runners expecting to take more than 7 hours. No exceptions. Early start will be at 6:30am and you will need to start with a headlamp or flashlight.
DROP BAGS: You can leave your drop bags at the start/finish. There will be a tarp to put your bags on but they will not be covered so be sure your bags are waterproof.
TRASH: The only place to deposit your trash is at the start/finish.
TOILETS: There are no toilets on the course, other than the woods. Keep in mind that you will be running near residential areas at times. We will supply two porta-potties at the start/finish area.
DIRECTIONS: Take Exit 4 off I-405 to Maple Valley/Black Diamond/Enumclaw/Hwy 169. Drive east several miles and take a right on 140th Way SE. Go uphill for about 2 miles and take a left on SE Petrovitsky Rd. In approximately 2 miles, turn right on Old Petrovitsky Rd. Parking lot is on the left in about 100 yards. (Note, if you take the earlier spur of Old Petrovitsky Rd, the parking will be on your right in about 1/4+ mile.)
From Hwy 18, take the Maple Valley exit. If coming from Tacoma, take a left at the end of the off ramp, go over Hwy 18 and take a right on SE Petrovitsky road. If coming from Issaquah/North Bend, take a right at end of off ramp with immediate right onto SE Petrovitsky Rd. For both, drive 3+ miles and take a left on Old Petrovitsky Rd in 2 lights. Parking is on left in 100 yards.
PARKING: Please carpool & park tightly! There are limited parking spaces in the parking lot. Please make room for your fellow trail runners and if someone is pulling in to park and you have your car door open close your door and let them squeeze in snug to you. Those who don’t find a space in the parking lot will need to park on the road.
